The Kibbe Family has been involved with open wheel racing since Clayton Kibbe got involved in the 1950s. The family has been racing midgets with the Northeastern Midget Association, the oldest pavement midget racing club in the Nation, since Carl Kibbe bought his first Midget in 1976.
In 2019, Curt Kibbe joined his family's long tradition of owners and his eldest daughter Tiana followed in a long line of Kibbe drivers at the wheel - this time in the NEMA Lites division.
Midgets are typically four cylinder, pure bred open wheel racecars. They do not use starters, flywheels or clutches. If it is bolted into a midget, it serves one of only two purposes: safety or speed.
The Lites mainly run 180 horse power Ford Focus motors with clutches and starters. Originally formed as a stepping stone to the big cars the lower cost has attracted a melting pot of racers from all over the North East and has become a permanent home for many racers of all types.
Before Tiana heads out onto the track, her father and uncle give her helmet taps and fist bumps while her cousin helps push. These are some of the moments we'll never forget.
The 2025 Season has ended. To say we are looking forward to 2026 would be a huge understatement.
